The singer-and-actress got engaged to NFL player Eric Johnson last week after a six-month romance and she is now determined to walk down the aisle over the festive period because she doesn’t want it to be overshadowed by the nuptials between her ex-husband Nick Lachey and his new fiancee Vanessa Minnillo.

A source said: “She wants to beat Nick to the altar. She knows that it is going to be tough to pull everything together on such short notice, so it might have to be a New Years wedding.

“In any case, she wants the focus to be on her wedding. She doesn’t want her wedding to be the aftermath of his.”

Sources also claim the ‘Come On Over’ singer will spend a fortune on her big day as she doesn’t want to be upstaged by Nick and Vanessa, who announced their engagement two weeks before Jessica and Eric.

The insider added to HollywoodLife.ccm: “It will be big and elaborate. She’ll spare no expensive for fear that Nick and Vanessa will outdo her. She’s already starting planning everything and has every family member working on her big day.”

While Jessica is planning a Christmas wedding, it has been reported the blonde beauty is refusing to make her fiance sign a prenuptial agreement to protect her $100 million fortune, which has angered her father-and-manager Joe Simpson.

A source said: “At the moment, Joe is sitting back and being a great father supporting his daughter and his future son-in-law.

“However, you can bet after all the excitement has died down, Joe is going to do everything in his power to make sure Jessica doesn’t walk down the aisle until Eric signs away any right he might have to Jessica’s enormous fortune.”

Jessica Simpson is seeing red – on her ring finger, that is.

The singer, who just got engaged to former pro football player Eric Johnson, showed off her ruby and diamond engagement ring at a promotional appearance on Saturday.

The Neil Lane three-stone ring (see it here) features a central ruby stone flanked by two diamonds.

Simpson was photographed wearing the ring at Dillard’s department store in Kansas City, where she was promoting her clothing line.

Reps for Simpson confirmed the engagement on Sunday. She and Johnson began dating in May.

This will be the second marriage for both of them. Simpson and ex Nick Lachey, who recently announced his own engagement to longtime girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo, split in 2005 after three years of marriage. Johnson and his ex-wife, Keri, finalized their divorce in September. They were married for five years and had been legally separated since October 2009.

Jessica Simpson is heading down the aisle again. In a new report from Us, a source says that, as of Thursday, the singer and reality TV star is now engaged to her new love Eric Johnson. It will be the second marriage for both.

Just days earlier, news broke that ex-husband Nick Lachey was engaged to marry his live-in girlfriend, Vanessa Minnillo.

Simpson met Johnson, a former NFL pro, in May. And their speedy courtship took a big step forward when he accompanied her to Italy to celebrate her 30th birthday in July. Last month — shortly after Johnson’s divorce from his wife of five years, Keri, was finalized — Simpson gushed in the press about her new romance: “We’re just best friends. He’s my dude! I love him.”

The TV star, who recently presided as a guest judge during the controversial season finale of ‘Project Runway,’ wed pop singer Lachey at the age of 22 in 2002; after starring in the MTV hit ‘Newlyweds,’ the couple divorced in 2006. Lachey, 37, began dating Minnillo shortly after the divorce. Simpson has since dated singer John Mayer and football star Tony Romo.

On Saturday, Simpson was spotted wearing a large ruby and diamond ring on her left hand while making an appearance at a Kansas mall. Her rep has yet to confirm that she and Johnson are officially engaged.

“He’s a really smart guy, and Jessica really loves him,” remarked Pete Wentz (husband of Simpson’s younger sister, Ashlee) to People.com earlier this month, talking about Johnson during VH1’s Save the Music Gala in New York. “I think that’s the most important thing, seeing her happy.”

Simpson opened up in recent interviews about her new lease on life, hinting that she’d love to try planning a wedding again: “I am from the South, so I’ve definitely dreamed of being married my whole life and having children, so hopefully that’s in my future.”
