Because part of being a princess is having people do things for you, 29 top designers offered Kate Middleton their sketches of a fantasy wedding dress.

Kate Middleton's wedding dress

For the most part, designers opted for simple, elegant lines, reflective of the commoner’s down-to-earth poise. Then, of course, there were the haute couture Victorian-contemporary hybrids from Karl Lagerfeld, whose high-neck, bow-bedecked confection was pure high-fashion Disney princess, and Christian Lacroix, who presented a paper-doll rendition of Kate’s face on a patchwork, Elizabethan-inspired ballgown.

While Kate is almost certainly going to work with a British designer on her dress, we loved what some American and European designers had to say about their designs. Prabal Gurung might as well run for office with his statment: “The look is regal with respect for the heritage of the royal family but represents what modern Europe is all about.” Considering, however, it goes along with a characteristically gorgeous, feminine-sleek ballgown style, we imagine (and hope) he’ll stick with fashion design.

Common among the designers is the idea that Kate’s dress will represent the antithesis of Princess Diana’s opulent fairy-tale gown–even that gown’s designer, Elizabeth Emanuel, who, for Kate, presented an intricately detailed, but pared-down number with bracelet sleeves. J. Crew wedding guru Tom Mora, Kimberly Ovitz and Gucci’s Frida Giannini offered up minimalist column dresses at the very end of the simplicity spectrum (all of which, we think, would look sensational with a crown).

If Kate had to pick one from the bunch, our money would be on J. Mendel’s ruffled, but unadorned number, but it’s anyone’s guess. Knowing her, she probably already owns it. We’ll just have to wait and see.

2011 Wedding Dress Trends

Posted by admin On October - 12 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS Subscribe here

It may seem a little early to start discussing the upcoming trends for 2011, but in the design world, often trends are upwards of 18 months out. We’ve been doing a lot of reading and researching of the topic, and believe we’ll be as close as anyone else in discussing what’s possibly coming.

For one thing, the time has passed as far as inexpensive dresses go. Vera Wang and others scaled back most of their ensembles for 2009 and 2010 because of a weak economy, but they’re not staying there. Feeling that the economy might turn for the better, or at least isn’t still getting worse, wedding gown prices will be going back up, which means the best materials will be returning once more. Not that the materials used before weren’t good, but the best of the best will be back in fashion, lots of tulle and expensive lace, as well as extensive embroidery.

Next, simple fashions will be out of style. A bride can still get an A-line silhouette, but it will be embellished and bunched and styled such that no one will look at her and think “simple”.

Vibrancy will be back, which means dresses with lots of colors and patterns. As a matter of face, dresses like the Carolina Herrera we’re exhibiting here with a trumpet silhouette, which is a modified mermaid only without the waist cinched as tight, highlights the type of styles that wedding dresses will be highlighted with. But there will be dresses of all sorts of colors, and not necessarily muted autumnal colors.

One trend that will continue will be the strapless sleeveless wedding dress, as brides will continue to show off their arms, necks, and shoulders. There will be more flair in bodices and probably less cinching, which means brides will be breathing better than this past year. But elegance will still be the standard, especially for those brides who have the income to afford very nice wedding gowns.

One final trend that’s being predicted is “bunched”, as in bunched tulle, bunched lace, bunched silk… you name it, you’re going to have a lot more of it. Fabric is in, probably because one can do so many different things with more fabric, whereas going minimal usually means a wedding dress that might be classic, but somewhat boring in many eyes.

Little in this world is as glamorous and elegant as a celebrity’s wedding dress. There is a reason that top fashion experts and popular wedding dress designers fight their hardest for the chance to have their product lines modeled by the lofty, well-known individuals that we all look up to. A celebrity does as much for the elegance and want of the design as the flowing cloth of the dress does for the celebrity.

Monique Lhuillier is one of the companies that has had the privilege of dressing some of the most popular starlets of our time. Wherever the royal red carpet is rolled out, chances are, one of Monique Lhuillier’s designs can be found there. Rock and Roll bad girl Pink dawned an ivory white and black gown, Lost actress Emilie de Ravin wore a beautiful lacy and elegant long gown and both of Britney Spears’s dresses were designed by Monique Lhuillier.

In her wedding to Kevin Federline, Britney Spears also requested that her five burgundy bridesmaids dressed also be tailored by Lhuillier. Shortly after creating both of Britney’s dresses, bridesmaids gowns, and both the bride’s and groom’s mothers dresses, Monique Lhuillier also designed Christine Baumgartner’s gown for her wedding in 2004 to actor Kevin Costner.

Another famous designer to the stars is a company that specializes in evening wear and an old but modern look to their designs. Badgley Mischka is a frequent request of not only celebrity weddings but also formal dress for the Oscars. Madonna and Calista Flockhart have often been dressed in Mischka’s finest styles and these elegant designs have even been graced by the Bush twins’ gowns for the Inaugural Ball.

For decades Badgley Mischka has been a leader in celebrity dress. Their beautifully beaded embroidery and traditional 1940’s mixed with the flamboyance of today’s styles have also been provided to actresses such as Trista Rehn, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tori Spelling and Carmen Electra.

Our final stylish focus of the day is the fabulous and intricate designs of one; Vera Wang. Opening their luxurious business in the 1990’s, their first fashion show was made exclusively of their wedding collection.

Perhaps the most well-known wearer of her designs is Jenifer Lopez. However, she is hardly the only one to wear the elegance of a Vera Wang dress. Jessica Simpson, Mariah Carey, Holly Hunter, Sharon Stone, Karenna Gore and the extravagant Uma Thurman have all been clients of a beautiful and custom made dress of Vera Wang.

ARMANI. The name stands out in the world of fashion and high couture. The brand is synonymous with elegance and sophistication, and the man behind this fashion conglomerate is none other than Georgio Armani, acclaimed as the most successful Italian designer. His business empire which he established in 1975 has withstood the whimsical world of fashion because he has remained passionate with his style without being dictated upon by what is modern and popular. The fashion icon once declared that he does not impose a style on his client, but rather he allows the client to express her individual choice giving her that look and feel of confidence once she wears the Armani design.

Armani Prive Wedding Dress

You can be that woman when you wear an Armani Prive bridal gown. The Armani Prive is the haute couture line of the Armani fashion empire that focuses on bridal gowns and formal wear that is a favorite among Hollywood stars during red carpet events. His designs are always characterized by clean lines that give a distinctive class. When Armani established his empire, he was known for his unstructured suits and jackets that were made with high-quality materials. When his designs were featured in the 1980 film American Gigolo starring Richard Gere, his name became synonymous with quality and comfortable power suits. Today his style continues to exude understated exquisiteness that makes an Armani product a consistent standout.

And if you are the type of woman who knows exactly what she wants, and is successful in her chosen career, wearing an Armani Prive wedding gown will best express that enduring character. You will confidently walk down the aisle looking resplendent and beautiful for your loving groom. Quality never comes cheap but choosing an Armani Prive wedding gown will be more than worth its price.

You can browse through the internet for his latest collections where you can get ideas of what you want. If you already have a design in mind, you can visit his stores and check out the display for that perfect gown. However, if you cannot find any that comes close to what you have in mind, then the store assistant will gladly help you get the design you envision. Remember what Giorgio Armani said – it is the client’s individual choice that will give life to his design.

If you think you cannot afford the price tag of an Armani Prive wedding gown, check out the Armani website for big discounts which they regularly publish to raise funds for their charitable endeavors. Best wishes!

Actress Kim Hee Sun of the South Korea origin blissfully exchanged wedding vows with Park Ju-Young. She is still considered as the No.1 beauty star in Korea. Her wedding gown had been the question in the paparazzi from a long time and when it was revealed she looked stunningly beautiful and ravishing in the white strapless piece.

Magnificent Wedding Dress of Kim Hee Sun

The white gown looked like it was a truly made piece only for the young actress. Notable and famous wedding dress designer Andre Kim was the designer for her wedding gown. It has been reported that they are long time friends and hence it was no big news when we came across, actually people already had spectaculated about the dress designer an some of them also put up pictures of famous wedding Andre gowns in which they would like their favorite actress to be in.

After so much of interest showed by the fans, Kim Hee Sun, herself came forward and gave out her pictures on one of the blog site which later ended all the imaginations and brought the real beatific gown that would best suit her. The fabric mostly was the chiffon and the bridal silk fabric material, however, not many details have been revealed about it.

Weddings involve a lot of planning, creativity, and most of all…money! In the world of weddings, there are several styles to choose from. Some include casual, formal, semi-formal, destination, and beachside. Many brides have a general idea of what type of wedding that they desire and these ideas are sometimes inspired by a celebrity couple’s wedding. Some brides have emulated a celebrity wedding in its entirety, while others simply borrow the look of the bride’s attire–including the birdal gown, bridal jewelry, hair, makeup, and bouquet. Having a celebrity-inspired wedding is possible even with a not-so-celebrity budget.

The first step in pulling off a celebrity-style wedding is to search popular magazines for Hollywood weddings that most inspires you. Be sure to choose a look that fits your own personal style and personality. Do not be intimidated by the diamond bridal jewelry and accessories. The average couple spends approximately $30,000 on their wedding, while the average celebrity spends hundreds of thousands of dollars. Swarovski crystals will achieve the look without ruining your budget.

After you have chosen your star studded look, the next step is to do what you do best…go shopping! Many wedding shops carry bridal gowns that are designer knock offs.

Be sure to take a picture of the wedding dress and bridal jewelry to the bridal shop. More than likely, a store clerk can help you find the look that you are trying to achieve. If you don’t find what you are looking for right away, don’t give up; just move on to another bridal shop.

The wonderful thing about having a celebrity-motivated wedding is that everyone gets to be a star. Most Hollywood stars have other celebrities standing up in their wedding, which means that your attendants should have designer-inspired attire as well. Your bridesmaids will love the idea of being celebrity-inspired for a day. Wearing a designer knock-off and diamond like bridal jewelry is an inexpensive way of looking like a star!

After you have selected the bridal attire for your Hollywood-inspired wedding you can move on to the other details–the wedding cake, dinner party, decorations, etc. The best way to communicate your ideas to the florist, caterer, and wedding coordinator is to use a picture. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words. If you have chosen pearls as an accent, it is a good idea to take your pearl bridal jewelry along with you in order to coordinate the appropriate colors. Those that are experienced in the wedding industry are perfectly capable of accommodating a celebrity-style wedding on a strict budget. Before you know it, you’ll be walking down the aisle as if you were going down the red carpet.

There is always one gorgeous wedding dress that stands out nearly every year, and more often than not, it is always worn by a celebrity. After all, who would best represent glitz and glamour than a true blue celeb. In case you too want to shine as bright as they do on your wedding day, here are some celebrity wedding dresses that have caused quite a stir – for their aesthetic features as well as monetary value. Well, you can just imagine that these wedding dresses cost more than the value of their elegant bridesmaid dresses and wedding favours put together.

1. Renee Zellweger
Although her marriage to country singer Kenny Chesney was short-lived, Renee Zellweger’s bamboo twill, ivory-colored, form fitting strapless wedding dress went down in history as one of the best celebrity wedding dresses ever. The wedding dress perfectly complimented their beach-themed wedding. Of course, it does help that Renee has a body to die for.

2. Sandra Bullock
Sandra Bullock looked absolutely stunning in her Angel Sanchez-designed strapless, antique white lace dress with ruffled bodice. Although her wedding was anything but conventional, Sandra was the very epitome of a blushing bride that day.

3. Melania Trump
You may have heard the rumors that Melania Knauss’ wedding dress designed by Christian Dior cost a whooping $100,00! The form-fitting, white strapless dress donned by the third “Mrs. Trump” is almost history-book worth, with its stunning design and 16-foot train that weighed 50 lbs. Imagine walking around in that. Oh well, you shouldn’t be surprised. Expect over the top – and nothing else – from a Trump.

4. Tori Spelling
The late Aaron Spelling’s beloved daughter, Tori Spelling, wore a form fitting wedding dress sprinkled with crystal beads. It was the perfect traditional wedding dress that every woman would surely envy. Of course, the middle-class bride should do away with all the crystals and look for some other substitute to sprinkle her dress with.

5. Britney Spears
Nearly everyone hated everything about Britney Spears and Kevin Federline wedding. The groom, most especially. It came as an awful surprise to the rest of the world. However, Britney’s gorgeous Monique Lhuiller wedding gown saved the occasion. Britney Spears wore a $26,000 wedding dress with a hand sewn train and cathedral length veil.

6. Demi Moore
Demi Moore did not look her age when she became Mr. Ashton Kutcher. Her floor-length gown by by Jeanne Lanvin was sheath-style, topped with jeweled shoulder straps. Her dress was simple, lovely and one of a kind. Just like Demi herself.

7. Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston’s now-defunct marriage to Brad Pitt was a wedding that stirred the media for weeks. No, it was not about the ceremony itself, it was all about the bride and her to-die-for wedding dress. Jennifer’s halter style, white tulle dress, adorned with tiny pearls was designed by Lawrence Steele. It was the perfect wedding dress to define a once-perfect marriage.

If you want to follow these celebrities wedding dresses, make sure to seek your designer’s aid in putting together fabric and materials that aren’t as costly as the real wedding dresses. You don’t need to splurge too much to get the look of a celeb on your wedding day.

Comedian David Walliams has married Dutch model Lara Stone at Claridge’s hotel in London.

The 38-year-old comedian and the Vogue cover girl, who is 12 years his junior, became engaged in January. They had been dating for about a year.

David Walliams and Lara Stone wedding

When two people get married their photo albums are usually filled with lovely pictures; the bride posing, the best man and ushers, guests, family and sometimes the odd cheeky one of someone sticking their tongue out. But when you’re a celeb getting married, your photo album gets a little more interesting… to say the least!

Saw the much talked about couple, Lara Stone and David Walliams, tying the knot at the gorgeous London hotel – Claridges. After the ceremony it was off to Shoreditch House, the covetable members club, to party into the wee hours. We all know by now that if you are a celebrity getting married, then you invite your celebrity friends. And this guest list was a long one!

Our very own Fearne Cotton provided the first DJ set for the couple. Other guests included Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, Walliams’ on and off screen friend Matt Lucas, funny man Russell Brand, Vernon Kay and Tess Daly (what a gorgeous couple!), another of ours – Denise Van Outen (looking super hot, especially considering she’s only just had a baby) with husband Lee and a rather dashing looking Alan Carr.

Hundreds of white roses and lots of delicious looking cupcakes arrived at Claridges hours before the guests arrived and Lara’s engagement ring is reported to be in the region of £100,000 and from Tiffany! We would have LOVED an invite, if only for the cupcakes!

The couple reportedly danced to Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson’s version of “Beauty and the Beast” for their first dance, reports Marie Claire.co.uk. “It sounds cheesy but it was actually a genuinely touching moment,” one onlooker told Britain’s Sun. The wedding, which cost an estimated 80,000 pounds also included an incredible synchronized swimming display in a rooftop pool!

what the bride wore. Lara donned a corseted gown in ivory washed silk satin, with lace and gold chain trimmed straps, all custom made for her by Ricardo Tisci for Givenchy Couture. Talk about a one-of-a-kind gown. As the happy couple left the reception at Claridge’s in London, however, the bride slipped into this glittering gold frock.

We think the wedding dress is so gorgeous — definitely fit for an A-list model, and we love the idea of changing into something short and sweet for your grand exit at the end of the night. What do you think, are you going to change into another fun frock at the end of the night? Take our poll and share your comments below!
